The Power Of Words

What is power to you?   Maybe it’s strength, maybe influence, maybe fear. To me power is words. Words can hurt or heal, they can make a situation better or worse, words are the most powerful thing a person possesses. We have the choice of using our words positively or negatively, to use them against someone or to build them up. In Chapter one of Malcolm Gladwell’s book David and Goliath, Gladwell tells the story of a man who does an amazing job of using positive words to build                  Vivek Ranadive of Mumbai had a young daughter named Anjali. She and the girls in her neighborhood had decided to start and basketball team, and Vivek was going to coach it. The interesting thing about this was that he knew very little about basketball. Anjali said, “It was really random. I mean, my father had never played basketball before” (Gladwell 19). Vivek was determined to do his best to help the girls succeed but also have fun while playing the sport. He had tw

What David and Goliath Tought Me

David and Goliath is a Story we have all heard a least once in our lives. It’s a story that inspires people to battle their giants in life with a strong hope of coming up on top. Malcolm Gladwell book David and Goliath tells this iconic story and puts it into a new perspective. He compares this story with many other stories of people who battle giants in their own lives. Throughout this quarter we have read three chapters of this book and I have written about them all.         The first chapter we read which was chapter two focused on the idea that more isn’t always better. This concept for me was very interesting to think about. We as humans are always trying to get more, be more, have more then someone else. But does having more really satisfy you? Gladwell focuses on the life of a man who grew up working for everything he had and is now a billionaire. This man talked about how hard he worked to be where he is now and, his problem with teaching

Stanly

This is my plant Stanly, I have had him for about a month. My dad gave him to me for Valentines day. The only problem is, he came in one of those disposable pots that have big holes in then. This meant this plant was technically meant to be planted in the ground. Well this isn't really a good time of year to plant a plant outside, so i decided to just put it in a cute pot. I went to target to find one thinking that would be a good place to look. I ran into a problem though, they didn't have that many small pots and the ones they had were very expensive for a flower pot.    As i walked around the store I kept seeing those little fake plants all around. I got the idea to just buy one of those and use it's pot, which is what I did. This made my purchase much cheaper then if I had bought a different one. It came down to about $7. So long story short don't be afraid to take your time and think outside of the box to save some money.
