Is Power As Great As It Seems?
Is Power as Great as It Seems?
Malcolm Gladwell’s David and Goliath
chapter seven focuses on several story’s that all have similar themes. They all
have someone in power who makes a choice whether it was what they thought was
right or not ended up with some hard consequences. For example, in the story of
Rosemary Lawlor, because of the conflict between the Protestants and Catholics
the British wanted to help by trying to control the situation and only making
things worse. The British end up turning on them in the end as Rosemary’s
father had predicted. The main point that Gladwell wanted us to see was that
whoever is in charge is who the people will follow they set they set the
example. And when something goes wrong it is all on them, but I don’t know if I
fully agree with this
I believe that we all make a choice to
do the right thing or the wrong sure there might be someone in charge setting
the example but in the end, we all have control of how we as people react to
that. So, saying that is all on the leadership and the people in power seems a
little harsh. I do believe there are people who have power and use it unwisely and
that those people cannot be trusted. But I also have a different perspective
than some people. I am a strong believer in Jesus and the christen faith, so I
see God as my authority and everyone else below him. So that might be why I see
this a little differently. The main thing that I took out of this was that having
power isn’t always as great as it seems. Most people have worked very hard for
the power they have and I working vey hard to maintain that. There is so much presser
on them to make the right choices and to do the right thing. A lot of judgement
falls upon them and if something goes wrong everyone goes to them and say it’s
all their fault. In the stories in chapter seven we see a lot of leaders and their
struggles and pressures I believe that power isn’t all as good as it seems
